Graf EcoBloc Stormwater Solution
Belvedere Case Study
900m3 EcoBloc Inspect Flex, Crabtree Manorway North, Belvedere, South East London
Background
Crabtree Manorway North is a large-scale industrial estate in Belvedere, South East London, comprising offices and warehouses. Readie Construction, the project contractor, needed an efficient, cost-effective stormwater management system to prevent flooding and meet strict runoff criteria set by the London Borough of Bexley. The system also had to withstand the daily weight of heavy lorries operating on site. Having worked with Graf UK before, Readie Construction approached them for a sustainable, versatile solution.
Solution
Graf UK designed and installed a custom 900m³ EcoBloc Inspect Flex system made from approximately 4,500 heavy-duty modular blocs. The system was tailored to fit around concrete and metal foundations supporting the units’ flooring. Buried two meters underground, each EcoBloc module has a gross volume of 205 liters and is made entirely from recycled plastic. The system can bear heavy-duty lorry loads up to 60 tonnes with a 1,000mm earth covering, making it ideal for the busy industrial site.
The solution includes three Vario 800 Flex shaft systems that provide built-in inspection channels, allowing easy access for advanced camera inspections to maintain optimal system performance over its lifetime.
Results
The EcoBloc system now provides effective drainage and flood control while fully complying with local discharge requirements of 9.7 liters per second. It is lined with a geomembrane to ensure proper attenuation, allowing controlled water release back into groundwater reserves. The modular design offered the flexibility necessary to meet specific site constraints, ensuring a highly efficient stormwater solution.
